AI Course

March 26 @ 10:30 am - 2:00 pm

This is a three-day training course, which consists of one theory training day followed by two practical training days.

DAY 1: Theory day 25th March @ Friars Moor Sturminster Newton branch – 10am-2:30pm, lunch included

DAY 2: Practical 26th March 10:30am start

DAY 3: Practical 27th March 10.30am start

We maintain a very high pass rate on this course, with attendees becoming certified to do AI on their own farm or farm of employment. We also can offer this as a dual language course, with either Polish or Romanian interpreters as required.

Students will learn:

  • About the reproductive anatomy of the cow – there will be the opportunity to examine and practice on real reproductive tract specimens.
  • How to spot a “bulling” cow and when to serve her.
  • The physiology of the cow’s reproductive cycle – including the hormonal influences and ovarian structures.
  • The safe and correct handling of frozen semen straws – as well as storage and flask maintenance.
  • How to load the AI guns and how to AI the cow – using real cows.

By the end of the three-day course students will achieve a certificate of attendance and may achieve a certificate of competence should this be demonstrated. Where this is not achieved, further one on one training sessions (as vet time cost) can be booked in, on your farm until the student passes.
