Calf Rearing Course

About the course

This one-day course is designed for farmers new to calf rearing together with those who are looking for tips to improve what they do. The course is on farm to encourage participants to share and learn best practice for rearing dairy and beef calves.Participants will learn:

• How to maximise transfer of colostrum to the calf through dry cow nutrition, use of refractometer and delivery to the calf.
• How to maximise health of the calves through milk feeding, choice of powder, consistency of feeding and cleanliness.
• How to recognise signs of ill health and treat the common diseases in calves.
• What the key features in the calf environment are to get right to avoid temperature stress whilst providing clean air.
• How to manage the transition to weaning so that calves continue to grow well.
