We are looking for a laboratory technician to join our team. The successful candidate would be responsible for recording and monitoring both internal and external farm laboratory submissions and results; carrying out basic tests; keeping the laboratory clean, tidy and well stocked and ensuring full health and safety compliance within that area. Full laboratory training will be given so no previous experience is necessary although organisation and administrative skills will be essential.


The specifics of the role are:

  • 12 hours worked flexibly over 3 days, with a minimum of three hours per day
  • Days and hours can be discussed to suit the applicant/practice
  • Initially based at our Sturminster Newton branch but to move to our new, purpose built West Stour site within a year
  • Potential for role development and additional responsibilities with move to new site

Veterinary Technician Vacancy

Come and join our team of vet techs in our friendly and progressive practice.    

Full or part time position. 

Previous experience with cattle preferred. 

Applicants need to enjoy working in a team, but also be confident to work alone.  Good communication skills are essential. 

A working day may involve: 

  • Mobility and body condition scoring 
  • Assisting with foot trimmers and freeze branding 
  • Calf vaccination round 
  • Dehorning 
  • Calf weighing 
  • Assisting during TB tests 
  • Assisting with whole herd or small herd/flock management tasks 

Opportunities exist to progress and specialise in Foot Trimming or as an Approved Tuberculin Tester.  ROMS accreditation will be provided if not already obtained.  

A clean valid driving licence is required.

**UPDATED HIRED** Laboratory Technician / Farm Office Admin Assistant Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly farm office team, at Friars Moor Livestock Health in Sturminster Newton, Dorset.

The successful candidate will be required to work 5 days a week, plus 1 in 5 Saturday mornings alongside our supportive team of 14 farm vets, 3 foot trimmers, 3 vet technicians and 5 office staff members.

The position is diverse and will involve time split between working in our in-house laboratory, collecting, running, and examining biological samples (for which full training can be provided) and supporting our farm office administrative team. We are seeking a motivated candidate who has excellent communication skills and the ability to problem-solve, responding with solutions.

Key Requirements:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, with the capability to quickly pick up new software skills.
  • Able to answer and deal with phone calls from clients and the practice team.
  • Will use the online practice diary management software.
  • Would suit a candidate with laboratory training but not essential.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible with a good working attitude.
  • Will process drug orders and help to manage stock.
  • Further progression is encouraged with full support for the right candidate.

*UPDATED HIRED* Opportunity to become an Approved Tuberculin Tester

Friars Moor Livestock Health, a fourteen-vet farm animal practice working in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire are looking for two Approved Tuberculin Testers (ATTs). ATTs do not have to be vets, so if you enjoy working with farmers and cattle, this may be the job for you!

To apply you must be:

  • Over eighteen years of age
  • Hold a valid driving license
  • Hold at least three graded GCSEs or equivalents in English, Maths and Science
  • Have a clean criminal record

Applicants must be very confident at handling cattle, including having at least six months of cattle handling experience. People skills are also essential, and the applicant must be confident that they can act professionally and with compassion in what can be high pressured, intense testing environments.

Friars Moor will supervise, support and fund the candidates through the training period which includes on-line courses, on farm practical training and on farm assessments.

The job will be either a two or a four-day week.
